In June 2015 I relocated my piano servicing business to the Strafford/Springfield, Mo. area from Waynesville, Mo. where I had lived and serviced pianos for 15 years.
I served 10 years (Sept. 2014 - Aug. 2024) as the head piano technician for Missouri State University, Springfield, Mo. (an All-Steinway School), and 10 years (2014 - present) at College of the Ozarks, Hollister, Mo.
I am currently an associate member of the Piano Technician's Guild, Southwest Missouri Chapter, and regularly attend their monthly meetings. I try to keep up-to-date regarding the current accepted practices within the field of piano technology, in a variety of ways: - I completed the 5 week-long training seminars offered by the C.F. Theodore Steinway Technical Academy, held at the Steinway factory in New York City, NY. (Kent Webb-instructor)
- I attended a week-long Harpsichord Voicing and Regulating Seminar held at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA. (Allan Winkler - instructor)
- I attend the Piano Technichan's Guild (PTG) National Conventions whenever possible.
- I teach and participate in our monthly PTG chapter technicals
- I read the PTG Journal, a monthly publication with piano related articles, tools, tips, techniques written by other technicians in the guild.
- I read other piano related online articles, participate in piano technician forums, and the like.
I am also currently studying to complete the final of 3 rigorous exams required to be a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with the Piano Technician's Guild. I passed the written exam during the 2011 National Convention in Kansas City, and passed the technical exam March 15, 2014.
I have a BS in Church Music from Olivet Nazarene University, Kankakee, IL, May 1993. My musical emphasis was trumpet.
I am very active in my local church. I attended the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene from 2001 to 2015 which my father started in 1977. There, I served many years as a church board member, served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Board Secretary, and served several years on staff as a part-time Lay Minister of Music. I also played bass guitar, keyboard, and trumpet in the worship services. I also served as the webmaster for the church's website. Currently, I am actively involved in the ministries of Strafford Church of the Nazarene (SCN) where I am the Church Board Secretary and play bass guitar on the worship team.
I am a Missouri Certified K-6 grade teacher, although I'm not currently teaching so I can focus on my piano business. I taught 5th-6th grade Science at Laquey Middle School from 2003-2008, and also worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Laquey Elementary School from 2002-2003, and at Thayer Elementary School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. from 2009-2010.
I've since serviced pianos full-time. That's all I do.
One of the joys of servicing pianos is the opportunity to meet new people and make many new friends. I look forward to meeting you and hope I can be of service to you in the near future.
